SpaceX attempted a 12.5-kilometer hop with their Starship SN8 prototype vehicle. SN8 will lift off under the power of its three Raptor engines and fly to an altitude of approximately 12.5 km (~41,000 ft). At that altitude, using its body flaps, SN8 will flip to a horizontal position and descend belly-first.
Just prior to landing, using a combination of its engines and body flaps, SN8 will flip around again to attempt a soft propulsive landing.

Spacex should use flux pinning to stop Starship in bellyflop above an electrically charged pad. The cold belly from sloshed liquid oxygen/methane on ceramic heat shield tiles can create a superconductor quantum locking situation that cushions, slows, and stops the rocket in mid air. Tim ask Elon if they have considered this. Just imagine seeing Starship (BFR) skydiving down to the pad, slowing, stopping, floating, and rotating like the actual BFG!

Hey Tim, Do you think you could revisit the issue of Abort Systems with the recent failure of SN8 on landing? An abort system would have likely saved the lives of the hypothetical crew aboard SN8. And we can ask "How many Falcon-9 landings would have been 'Survivable' by human crew? Until now, we've only had vertical liftoff to worry about but now with landings being far more dangerous than liftoff, couldn't you revisit the concept in a new video? Perhaps even examine the concept of jettisoning the crew capsule as standard practice after re-entry and parachuting the crew safely some distance from the landing stage. Your previous video about abort systems doesn't take into account the danger of vertical landing which is a very new concept and has no statistical data to point to. Strangely, it's difficult to find statistics online for Falcon-9 landing crashes vs. success.. Also, just for extra thought for another video, consider every event that has ever caused a launch abort or delay while on the launchpad - and consider how many of them could be corrected when launching from the moon and how many would leave a stranded crew on the Lunar surface.

If nothing else they're learning what things are fiddlely and touchy while on the launch pad and can tweak them for the SN9 and further. Any way this goes they're learning stuff that'll make the dream of rockets as reusable as airplanes come about. Even if it sucks for the hundreds of thousands that were hoping it would have gone up yesterday ( just watching now, had to head to bed at 4:30pm EST so just finding out it scrubbed )
